- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (dark)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Red gel food coloring
- Blue gel food coloring
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes). Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients on low speed until just combined.
- Divide the dough into three portions: leave one plain, color one red using gel food coloring, and another blue. Knead each portion until uniform in color.
- Roll out each colored dough between parchment paper into rectangles (1/4 inch thick). Stack layers starting with white on the bottom, followed by blue and red. Roll tightly along the long side into a log shape.
- Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill for at least two hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice chilled logs into 1/4-inch rounds and place them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden. Enjoy warm or cooled!
