  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 2 medium carrots, chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and carrots until soft.
  3. Add ground meat; cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in peas, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Boil potatoes until fork-tender (15-20 minutes). Drain and mash with milk and butter.
  6. Mix half of the Gruyère into the mashed potatoes.
  7. In a baking dish, layer the meat mixture and top with cheesy mashed potatoes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
